The Inciting Incident in Good Time:

My favorite film from the past year was Good Time, a gritty crime/thriller masterpiece directed by the Safdie brothers. The IMDB plot summary reads, After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Connie Nikas embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city's underworld in an increasingly desperate-and dangerous-attempt to get his brother Nick out of jail. No other words can describe this movie better. It is dark, engrossing, and beautiful all at the same time. Spoilers to follow.

The inciting incident from this film starts before the beginning credits roll, which happens to be seventeen minutes into the picture. Connie has just robbed a bank with his mentally disabled younger brother, Nick. The police are after them as they run through the streets of queens trying to get away. As Connie flees, Nick crashes through the glass window of a chinatown mall, where the cops capture and throw him into the notorious Ryker's Island prison. Connie decides with all of his will power, to get Nick out of jail in one night, whatever the costs may be.
